ABSTRACT RULES AND GUIDELINES

1.Abstract Submission Deadlines

  • Abstracts must be submitted before March 31st, 2017. Changes cannot be accepted after this deadline.

2.Presenting Author and Registration

  • The presenting author must register for the Conference no later than 14 days after acceptance of an abstract.
  • The presenting author must receive the approval of all co-authors named on the abstract.
  • The Conference Scientific Committee reserves the right to exclude any abstract from the scientific program if the presenting author does not register within 14 days of notification of abstract acceptance.

3.Guidelines for Abstract Submission

  • General Conditions
    • Abstracts must be submitted in English.
    • At abstract submission, the abstract type must be selected from two categories: [Academic Research] or [Case Report]. [Academic Research] should be original research in basic or clinical sciences. [Case Report] should be original case reports demonstrating clinically important information that expands the field of orthodontics.
    • Previously published abstracts or those presented at other meetings are ineligible.
    • Accepted abstracts will be published on the Conference web site.
  • Contents of Abstract
    • The title should be no more than 12 words, and describe the abstract outcome rather than describe the study methods. The title should be entered in title case format, AP format (not be bold). So, you should capitalize the first letter of each word unless it is a preposition or article.
    • Each author should be added separately to the submission to ensure proper listing. Enter first name and family name for each author plus affiliation/ institution.
    • The abstract text should be 250 words or less. The Conference Scientific Committee reserves the right to edit abstracts that exceed this word limit.
    • The abstract must include the following:
      [Academic Research]
Objective: Clearly state the purpose of your abstract.
Methods: Describe clearly your experimental methods used.
Results: Present your results in text (e.g., no tables or graphs) in a logical sequence.
Conclusions: Emphasize relevant conclusions that are drawn from new and important findings from the study. The conclusions should align with the title and the objective.
      [Case Report]
Objective: Clearly state the purpose of your abstract.
Cases: Describe your cases explicitly in line with the objective.
Discussion and Summary: Emphasize new and important aspects of the cases, logically and clearly.
    • All abbreviations must be defined with first use.
    • Statements such as "results will be discussed" or "data will be presented" will not be accepted.
    • Generic names, instead of the commercial brand names, must be used when referring to products or companies. The brand name can be inserted as a reference at the bottom of the abstract page. Papers containing brand names/company names in the title/abstract text (i.e. not in a reference at the bottom of the page) may be rejected. The Conference Scientific Committee reserves the right to replace any brand name with a generic name without further notice.
    • To use superscript, subscript, italic and bold font type in the title/abstract text, please follow the instructions on the website of https://www.gakkai-web.net/php-bin/gakkai/knt/wioc2017/characters.html. CGS
(centimeter-gram-second) units for measurable quantities must be used. Graphs, tables and photographs cannot be attached to abstracts.
  • Reviewing and Notification of Acceptance
    • All submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the Conference Scientific Committee. The Committee may request changes to the abstract category and/or abstract contents. In addition, due to the display hall capacity, approximately 40 poster presentation is estimated as the maximum limit. If the submission abstracts exceed this limit, the Committee reserves the right to select the abstracts to fit the display hall capacity.
    • Decisions on acceptance will be posted on this website at the end of April (no notification will be made to individual applicants).
    • It is the responsibility of all investigators to ensure that all studies comply with national and international legislation and ethical guidelines with regards to both human and animal subjects. The Conference Scientific Committee reserves the right to reject any submitted abstract that is believed to violate these principles.
    • Please be advised that abstract acceptance may be withdrawn at the discretion of the Scientific Program Committee in cases including the following: the content of the abstract lacks sufficient ethical consideration or personal information protection; or lacks appropriate measures to manage conflicts of interest such as those caused by academic-industry cooperative activities.
    • Please verify that your email address (presenting author) is correct as it will be used for contacting you after the review process.
  • Notes on On-Line Abstract Submission
    • The Conference Scientific Committee assumes no responsibility for any problems with submission of abstracts due to the user's computer hardware or software. You will need one of the following internet browsers: Internet Explorer (11.0 +), Firefox (49.0 +) or Google Chrome (54.0 +).
    • All notifications of problems with networks or servers must be made through the official website. Inquiries through other means will not be accepted.
    • Network congestion is anticipated if accessing the website immediately before the deadline. Submit your abstract well in advance to avoid possible problems.
    • You should use the [Abstract Submission] page when submitting your abstract for the first time. After completion of abstract submission, you will receive a confirmation email, which contains the abstract number and an automatically issued password. Please keep the abstract number and the password to yourself, as you will need these to confirm and/or revise your submitted abstract. To make any revisions, you should use the [Confirmation/Revision] page for your registered abstract. Please note that if you use the [Abstract Submission] page with each revision, multiple registrations will be created for the same abstract.
