WELCOME ADDRESS

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Organizing Committee and all those who are involved in preparing for the 19th International Symposium on Pollutant Responses in Marine Organisms (PRIMO 19), I am honored to welcome you to this candidly scientific meeting. The PRIMO has traditionally been held in America and Europe since 1981 with a team of investigators who had the spirit to try to understand chemical effects and the health of the ocean with mechanistic interpretation. Following in their footsteps, we are pleased to open a new window to Asia.

The aims of this symposium are to serve as an interdisciplinary scientific forum to present and discuss the cutting-edge researches in environmental chemistry and toxicology in the aquatic environment, and to promote international communications and collaborations on environmental science researches. It is our hope that the integration of a variety of environmental topics related to chemical contaminants including toxicokinetics, toxicodynamics, molecular toxicology, systems toxicology, computational modeling, and hazard and risk assessment in aquatic organisms will provide novel insights into the complex environmental challenges and effective and systematic solutions for the improvement of environmental health.

This international symposium is jointly held by the Center for Marine Environmental Studies (CMES) and the Joint Usage/Research Center - Leading Academia in Marine and Environmental Research (LaMer), Ehime University with support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan (MEXT). We thank both centers for their financial and administrative assistance.
