Dr. Ryuzo Kanomi graduated from Osaka Dental University in 1977, and received the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.).He received the degree of Doctor of Dental Science (D.D.Sc.) in 1989. He also graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry, Osaka University in 2002 and received the degree of Ph.D. He is maintaining a private practice in Himeji-city, Hyogo, Japan.
He is a member of the Midwest Component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists.
At present, he is a member of Implant Orthodontic Conference Committee of Japan and a member of the Adviser Committee of the World Implant Orthodontic Association.
Clinical Comparison between Mini-screw and Mini-plates in Orthodontics
Recently, there have been many reports examining orthodontic mini-screws & mini-plates. Consideration of how best to use and select skeletal anchorages is thus needed. Orthodontists can move teeth using anchorages on teeth and/or jaws, and can also control the jaws using anchorages to the skeleton. However, clearly separating these conventional methods is difficult because of recent techniques using mini-screws and mini-plates; severe skeletal problems can be improved using skeletal anchorages, and do not need surgical operations. Skeletal anchorages are very powerful tools, and many cases have been treated successfully. However, the counteractions and risks must be considered. This report describes the pros and cons of skeletal anchorages based on clinical cases I have encountered, and I hope to present a perspective on future developments in skeletal anchorages.
