Bone remodeling using miniscrew biomechanics

Abstract

Miniscrews are now a well-established temporary anchorage device because of their many advantages including low cost, small size, easy insertion and removal and no need for patient compliance. However, the greatest advantage of the miniscrews may be related to their versatility to have several clinical applications and their use has been expanded to promote challenging tooth movements in contemporary orthodontics while promoting at the same time favorable bone response. In this presentation, it will be presented clinical cases using miniscrew to promote bone remodeling in: rehabilitation cases improving an implant recipient site to enhance quality and quantity of the alveolar bone and gingival tissue, camouflage treatment requiring extensive amount of en masse movement of upper and lower dental arches, rapid palatal expansion supported by miniscrews in skeletal Class III young patients and adult patients with adjunct use of miniscrews for cortipuncture to facilitate midpalatal suture opening.
