A benefit given from the orthodontic anchor screw and a new possibility

Abstract

Temporary anchorage device, especially miniscrews have been widely used in orthodontic treatment with multi-bracket system. Miniscrews are frequently implanted into middle part of palatine for maximum anchorage, distal movement, and intrusion of molars. Various designs of force system using miniscrews implanted into palatine have been developed for further effective tooth movement. However, a rigid connection of miniscrews to orthodontic appliance such as trans-palatal bar has been difficult due to a risk of implant body fracture.
In this presentation, transition of the design of orthodontic appliance with miniscrews in Hirosima University Hospital is introduced firstly, then the effectiveness of these appliances will be compared. Finally, a treatment of maxillary protrusion with the latest lingual appliance rigidly connected to miniscrew will be demonstrated.
